Sofa Buying Guide PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Living room settingOne of the first things you will need to consider before buying a sofa is the size of your living room. You don't want your sofa to overpower your existing furniture and accessories, or to look lost in a larger room.

If you have a small space, you may wish to think about a two seater. If you have a larger room, you could make a dramatic statement with a four-seater sofa.

You may also need to consider how you will fit the sofa into your home or living room. How wide are your hallways or staircases? Will the sofa fit through your living room door? It is a good idea to measure your door frames and hall before purchasing your sofa. Some sofa styles have removable arms or come in sections for ease of delivery.

The decor in your room may be an influencing factor in your decision. If you would like your sofa to tie in with an existing look, you may wish to think about the colour of your walls and carpet, as well as the style and cover of your furniture. Sofas can be made to order, which means you can specify your personal choice of fabrics and leathers from a wide range to ensure they integrate wonderfully with your home and personality.

Alternatively, if you would like to create a beautiful new look, you could use your sofa as a focal point.

How many people will be sitting on your sofa? Do you entertain often? Do you have young children or grandchildren, and if so do you need a sofa that's easier to clean?

If you entertain or have your family over often, you may prefer a larger sofa. If you have young children, or eat your dinner on your sofa, a darker fabric may be more practical. Or perhaps you would prefer a leather sofa that you can wipe clean?

A sofa is one piece of furniture that will be used almost every day. So choosing one that will stand the test of time is important.

Having a beautiful sofa that perfectly complements your decor is important, but it should also offer you the ultimate in comfort. You should consider your height and leg length, how firm or soft you would like your cushions to be and whether you want to sit straight or relax and curl up on your sofa.

We understand that people come in all shapes and sizes, so we offer a range of sofas with different fillings and posture characteristics. Make sure you visit us to experience the sofas for yourself. Don't be shy about taking off your shoes, putting your feet up and recreating the way you would use your sofa at home.

Last but not least, you will need to decide on a fabric to complete the look. Would you prefer a leather sofa or a fabric sofa? If you have children, would a darker colour be more practical? Or would you like the luxury of chenille which is beautifully soft to touch? If you are looking for a leather sofa, you should seek quality leather that will wear well.

How much time to do have to care for your sofa? It's worth considering how often you will need to plump the cushions or treat the leather.
